Flora & Ulysses

DiCamillo, K., & Campbell, K. (2013). Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated
Adventures. Candlewick Press.

Do you like comic books? Superheroes? Holy unanticipated occurrences? Then this is the book for you! In this unexpected, HILARIOUS, story, a cynic meets a squirrel who gets sucked up into a vacuum cleaner (and comes out with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry). Flora changes, too… She realizes having an capacious heart isn’t all that bad, and that her parents truly love her.

This book is a Newbery Medal winner.

Bink and Gollie

DiCamillo, K., & McGhee, A. (2010). Bink & Gollie. Somerville, Mass.:
Candlewick Press.

This charming graphic novel follows the adventures of two best friends at a carnival. The book has enough pages to be a novel, however, it is heavily illustrated. This book would be great to use with students who are English Language Learners or students struggling with comprehension. All of the pictures can help students comprehend the story.
